For women wishing to change the size, shape, or overall appearance of their breasts, cosmetic breast procedures can bolster self-confidence and improve quality of life. Cosmetic breast surgery procedures may address a variety of concerns and aesthetic goals to help women attain their ideal physique.
Whether you’re interested in breast augmentation, mastopexy, breast reduction — or even cosmetic breast surgery revisions — Dr. Halvorson will use his evidence-based surgical approach to provide you with natural, high-quality results.
Breast augmentation is one of the most popular cosmetic procedures performed in the U.S., with approximately 300,000 implant surgeries occurring every year.
With over 15 years of experience specializing in plastic surgery of the breast, aesthetic breast surgeon Dr. Halvorson has the knowledge and skills to give you the natural results you are looking for. There are many issues to consider in breast augmentation. Dr. Halvorson will review them with you in detail to develop an individualized plan that meets your goals and expectations. Incision location and implant size, type, and position are all considerations that you will discuss at length based on the most current scientific data available.
Incisions can be placed in the armpit, around the areola, or — most commonly — at the fold of the breast. Each has advantages and disadvantages, which we will discuss in detail so that you can make an informed decision.
Implant size is determined by using specialized sizers (not implants) that mimic the appearance of an augmented breast in a bra. Every woman has different breasts and different goals. It is, therefore, crucial to consider this when selecting the appropriate implant size.
Most women can go up 1-2 cup sizes without appearing unnatural. Implants that are too large can lead to complications and added scars in the future.
There are many different types of implants, and we believe in allowing YOU, the patient and consumer, to make a well-informed decision based on a comprehensive discussion of all implants available.
There are smooth or textured, round or shaped, and saline or silicone implants. Each has different characteristics, advantages, and disadvantages. In addition, we are happy to offer the Ideal® implant, a new and innovative saline implant that feels more similar to a silicone implant.
Implants can be placed on top or under the pectoralis major muscle. Each position has advantages and disadvantages that will be discussed so that you can make an informed decision.
The factors that affect this decision include:
- The shape of your breast
- Your activity level
- An increased risk of breast cancer
- How thin you are
- The size of the implant
Mastopexy (Breast Lift)
Many women who are looking for fuller, lifted breasts benefit from mastopexy. Women whose breasts have dropped due to pregnancy, or the effects of time and gravity, are often better served by a breast lift than a breast augmentation.
Although mastopexy typically requires scars on the breast, it is important to understand that this is preferable and safer than using large implants to correct ptosis, or sagging, of the breast.
If you are generally happy with your breast size but wish they were higher/fuller, mastopexy may be for you.
Some women are self-conscious about their breast size but do not want the aggressive reduction insurance companies require to be covered. Sometimes women have symptoms of neck, shoulder, and back pain but do not meet stringent insurance criteria.
Minimal/moderate breast reductions can often be accomplished with smaller scars while lifting the breasts into a more youthful position. The shape of your breast and degree of reduction will determine the extent and location of scars.
Cosmetic Breast Surgery Revisions
Because the results of aesthetic breast surgery can change over time, new plastic surgery techniques and products can improve less-than-desirable outcomes. Women who have previously had aesthetic breast surgery and wish to refresh their results — whether by a change in shape, size, volume, or symmetry — are ideal candidates for our cosmetic breast surgery revisions. Based on his extensive experience performing both cosmetic and complex reconstructive breast surgery, Dr Halvorson has particular expertise in revision surgery. Almost every undesirable outcome can be improved.
