For women experiencing discomfort, dissatisfaction, or health concerns related to their breast implants, breast implant removal (explant surgery) offers a path to relief and a more natural breast appearance. Dr. Eric Halvorson, a board-certified plastic surgeon, specializes in breast implant removal and implant exchange to provide safe, effective solutions tailored to each patient’s needs.

Why Consider Breast Implant Removal?

Patients seek breast implant removal for various reasons, including:

Breast Implant Illness (BII)

Unexplained symptoms such as fatigue, joint pain, and autoimmune issues

Capsular Contracture

Hardening or distortion of the breast due to scar tissue tightening

Implant Rupture or Leakage

Silicone or saline implants that have failed or changed shape

Desire for a More Natural Look

Many women choose to return to their natural breast size

Discomfort or Pain

Neck, back, or shoulder pain due to implant weight

Types of Breast Implant Removal Procedures

Dr. Halvorson customizes every explant procedure based on the patient’s medical history and goals. Options include:

En Bloc Capsulectomy

Complete removal of the implant and surrounding scar tissue in one piece when medically necessary

Total Capsulectomy

Removes both the implant and scar tissue separately for a clean, natural chest appearance

Standard Implant Removal

For patients who do not require full capsule removal

What Happens After Breast Implant Removal?

Following implant removal, patients may experience skin laxity or volume loss. To help restore a proportional, youthful appearance, Dr. Halvorson offers:

Breast Lift (Mastopexy)

To tighten and reshape breast tissue for an elevated look

Fat Transfer (Natural Augmentation)

Uses the patient’s own fat to restore volume for a soft, natural breast shape

Flat Closure

For those choosing to remove implants without additional reconstruction
